30th May 2004 The Torbay Classic (Torquay)
Race day dawned with clear skies and very calm conditions.  The teams with rough weather boats were praying for wind.  My body was quite happy with the calmer conditions especially as this was the first race of the season and the day after the first race is always agony!
13th June 2004 The Cancer Charities (Poole)
The Cancer Charities race in Poole does not count towards National Points however it is always hotly contested and this one was no exception. Arch rival Max Walker with girlfriend Rebecca Vowles were out to make it a double (having won the previous race in the Club Classic series) and they were raring to go.
20th June 2004 The Ramsgate Powerboat Grand Prix
Ramsgate is one of those events where you are always made to feel very welcome. The harbour officials are lovely, the craning marshals friendly and efficient and in general it’s a popular event with competitors and spectators alike. The only bit about Ramsgate that is not so welcoming is the sea water which is nearly always as rough as hell and this weekend saw no exception to that!
26th June 2004 The Exmouth Quay Powerboat Grand Prix

The Exmouth Quay Powerboat Grand Prix was cancelled due to bad weather!

The forecast of South Easterly Winds of 20mph, moderate to rough seas and force 6-7 proved unusually accurate! Click above to see the course we were due to run.

4th July 2004 The Littlehampton Regatta Offshore Powerboat Event
Littlehampton has had some fantastic weather for the past 8 years it was therefore very upsetting for everyone that this run of good weather changed to reveal one of the most wettest and miserable weekends of the summer.
24th July 2004 The Scottish Stockdale Grand Prix
Despite the long journey up this is one of the best events of the season.  The people are incredibly accommodating, the venue is beautiful and where else would you get undercover pits? The downside of racing in Scotland is the weather which is always a challenging part of the event!
15th August 2004 The Poole Offshore Powerboat Event
Poole is one of our local testing areas and it's where I started racing a few years ago. So it feels like home ground for us.   A regular and popular venue for many competitors, most of the usual teams turned up for some good racing in the sunshine (we thought!).
25th August 2004 Cowes Classic
The Harmsworth Trophy is one of those races that everyone who truly loves offshore powerboat racing wants to compete in. Comprising of 3 heats totalling more than 450 nautical miles over 5 days it is rated as one of the world’s toughest endurance race.
1st-3rd October 2004 RYA Offshore Powerboat National Finals
Cardiff is a new venue for the offshore race fleet. It is the first time Cardiff Bay have held an event of this kind. This event combined all types of watersport ranging from water-ski racing, jet skis, circuit boats, V24, OCR (Offshore Circuit racing) and of course the offshore fleet made up of Class III boats and F1 and F2 RIB’s.  So for any powerboat enthusiast, there was tonnes to see.

1st February 2003 Brass Monkey – Winter Gold Cup Race Report
The Brass Monkey is aptly named as it is always held in February when it likely to be the coldest and wettest! Ably organized by Tom Crump and his team at the Royal Motor Yacht Club in Poole, it is always a popular race encouraging many to brush off the cobwebs and get their boats out in preparation for the coming season.
3rd/4th May 2003 The Scottish Stockdale Grand Prix - Inverkip
The Scottish Stockdale Grand Prix is the first National race of the season. An important race and hopefully setting the scene for the rest of the season. Competitors were also racing for the coveted Stockdale Trophy for the fastest overall boat.
25th May 2003 The Torbay Classic Torquay
Torquay is always a fun event and very well attended by competitors and spectators alike. For a change the weather held out for us and the weekend got better and better.
15th June 2003 Ramsgate Offshore Powerboat Grand Prix
Ramsgate always put on a fantastic event always making it an eventful weekend. However, what Ramsgate does best is supply the finest quality rough sea to race in! This weekend was no exception.
5th - 6th July 2003 Exmouth Jurassic Gateway Grand Prix
The Exmouth Powerboat Grand Prix proved just how exciting and dangerous powerboat racing can be. Close racing and some unfortunate spills were the order of the day. Offshore powerboats, well known for unpredictable behaviour at high speeds (and not just the boats!) did not let down the large spectator fleet that turned out to watch the many classes of boat racing on Sunday.
24th August 2003 Isle of Wight – Round the Island Race
After all the racing going on on Saturday you’d think we would all have had enough, but no there was still the ‘Round the Island’ Race to go and eventful it was too.
23rd August 2003 Cowes-Torquay-Cowes
This race is regarded by some as the most difficult offshore powerboat race in the world, 210 nm of racing with a rest for re-fuelling consisting of 1 hour in Torquay.
22nd - 28th Sept 2003 Portsmouth Powerboat Festival
The Portsmouth Powerboat event was held at Castlefields near Southsea. We were provided with a huge field with which was filled with powerboats of all shapes and sizes, most importantly a beer tent and then numerous displays, it reminded me of my horse riding days!

Our second race of the season greeted us with thunder storms and high seas as we arrived in Ramsgate.
6/7th July 2002 Exmouth – Jurassic Gateway Powerboat Grand Prix
Sometimes you have weekends that go really well, everything goes well and you have an enjoyable and hopefully successful time. Others don’t happen like that. In fact they can happen completely opposite to that…..this was Exmouth!
27th/28th July 2002 Littlehampton Regatta Race Report
In summary this was a very fun event run in magnificent weather. It was held over the hottest weekend of the year so no one had anything to complain about! From our point of view it was a very conveniently located event just 45 minutes from Southampton so we had no excuses but to enjoy the weekend.
22nd - 26th August 2002 Cowes-Torquay National Race and BIBOA World Cup
The Honda Cowes Classic was the last of the UK races and wow what an event it proved to be. There were a number of different classes ranging from Honda sponsored boats which do shorter courses and travel of speeds of up to 60mph right up to ‘Pro Vee’ Class II boats traveling at over 100mph. In total over 70 boats competing over 4 days. Competitors had traveled from as far away as Sweden, Norway, Italy and Gibraltar to compete in this famous classic. This made for a packed drivers briefing with more than 150 crew members packed into a small room some not even able to speak English!
22nd - 26th August 2002 Torquay – Cowes : Leg 2 BIBOA World Cup
So off we set for another 100+ miles, through the start gate in Torbay and off to open seas once again. There was no mass start this time so we set off on our own.
22nd - 26th August 2002 Round the Island Race : Leg 3 of the BIBOA World Cup
This was the final day’s racing and the last race for everyone in the UK this season. Once again the weather was amazing.
10th August 2002 Poole Powerboat Grand Prix – National Qualifier
Poole has always been one of my favourite race meetings, mainly because this is where I started boating and I know the area very well. Poole is always well organised as well which always makes our lives easier!
11th August 2002 Poole Basic Race
Whilst Saturday was beautiful and the race conditions were perfect, the weather made up for it on Sunday. The rain came down and it got windy and then more windy! It was gusting to Force 6/7 and the sea was looking decidedly unfriendly.
1st - 6th October 2002 Gibraltar National Finals
The trip started a couple of days before the first race, due to the travelling involved. We were to travel to Plymouth, have a few hours sleep in Plymouth and then catch the ferry to Santander in the North of Spain early the next morning. This all went smoothly and the 24 hour ferry journey went without event, not only that but I didn’t get seasick which was a result!

May 2000 Cleethorpes Race Report
The first race of the season was at Cleethorpes in Lincolnshire. The hosts had provided us with fantastic, clean pits in the new Grimsby Fishdocks (albeit a little ‘fishy’ smelling at times!). The course was 66 nautical miles and run in front of Cleethorpes promenade and attracted a healthy number of spectators, 40,000 overall with 3,500 coming to the pits on the pre race day.
May 2000 Torquay Race Report
The second National race of the season was held in Torquay on the weekend of 27/28 May and no one could have imagined how bad the weather was going to be as we approached the ‘English Riviera’! We arrived on Friday having had a torrid day sorting out gearboxes and other such bits and pieces and fought our way through bank holiday traffic.
June 2000 Poole Race Report
2nd, a bit battered and bruised but quite strangely keen to endure the whole thing once again (I really must go and see that psychologist!).
July 2000 Ramsgate
6th out of 12! I guess like everything in life, with every high there always follows a low and we had ours this weekend at Ramsgate.
August 2000 Cowes - European Championships
Cowes was, shall we say, an “interesting” event. One of the most challenging moments of my life ….read on!
