Exmouth Quay Powerboat Grand Prix

26th-27th June 2004

The Exmouth Quay Powerboat Grand Prix was cancelled due to bad weather!

The forecast of South Easterly Winds of 20mph, moderate to rough seas and force 6-7 proved unusually accurate!

As fate would have it, one of the race teams was unable to compete on the Sunday forcing the entire race to be cancelled, but the weather for Sunday was beautiful blue skies with slight sea conditions! C'est la vie!

Course Details

The course we had planned to race took us from Exmouth to the Eddystone Lighthouse and back, covering a distance of 110nm

The numbers in the black boxes show the bearing (direction) we have to follow.

The numbers in the brown circles show the direction we have to turn to at each laid mark, in terms of numbers on a clock face. So, the number 1 in the brown circle at the bottom of the picture at Berry Head means that we had to turn Right to 1 o’clock.

The colour of the circle at each turn indicated whether there is an existing mark/can to navigate around (Red on this chart), or a mark laid specially for the race (orange). Green marks are land or obstacles such as Ore Stone and Berry Head on this first chart.

The chequered box represents the lap line in front of Exmouth Quay..

The first chart shows the course from the East Exe mark outside Exmouth down past Ore Stone and Torbay to Berry Head.

The second chart (opposite) takes us down past Blackstone Rock, Strete Head and between the rocks at Start Point (see the inset).

The final chart takes us out towards the Eddystone Lighthouse which we were to round and head back towards Exmouth.
