We have decided that after two
years of racing in this series, that the series needs more time
to evolve particularly as far as the rules and the enforcement
of the rules are concerned. P1 have made a number of changes in
2008 to address these issues, but in our opinion the platform is
still in its infancy. Many of the rules they have set in 2008
are probably still unenforceable.
The series is still heavily
funded by a single "benefactor" and until this is replaced by
sustainable sponsorship, which has sadly proved very allusive to
date, the sport remains driven by a whim rather than by
business.
Lastly, for us at least, the lack
of a British Grand Prix in 2008 is a sad indictment of sports
sponsorship in the UK and truly sad for all the fans that have
regularly lined the shores of the Isle of Wight to support the
British teams. We hope this will be rectified very soon!
The home of powerboat racing is
without doubt Cowes on the Isle on Wight and the British love
affair with powerboat racing can be seen in the huge commitments
made to the
Round Britain Race in 2008.
For those who have chosen to race
in 2008, we sincerely wish you an exciting, competitive and
successful season in 2008. |
