Still room for improvement for World
champions
The P1 SuperSport World champions say they still need practise to
get their cornering absolutely right! The husband and wife team,
Jackie Hunt and Mike Shelton won the title at their first attempt.
They put their success down to the fact they were constantly
reviewing their course during the championship to see where they
could have done better.
“The real help we have had from a winning perspective is the ability
to download the track and speed information from the boat after a
race,” says Mike Shelton. “We took all the information from our
Garmin GPS Chartplotter and were able to analyse every part of our
race ranging from speed variances of laps and individual legs to how
we were cornering. After Germany in particular, we lost the second
race due to poor cornering, and used the software to analyse and
correct this for the next race.”
The couple used the Garmin 3005c and 3006c networked chartplotters
to navigate and hone their skills over the course of the
Championship. They believe that it really helped them perfect their
style and get first place.
So do they think they’ve got the corners right now?
“We’re ecstatic that we’ve achieved what we have. But I don’t think
you can ever say you’re 100 per cent happy with your performance.
We’re constantly examining what we did, how we did it and whether it
can be improved. We don’t plan to give up practising those corners!”
says Jackie Hunt.

OSG Donzi
are the P1 Evolution World Champions & ARPRO takes SuperSport Glory!
SuperSport World title was won by the Dragon boat ARPRO, the British
husband and wife team of Mike Shelton and Jackie Hunt completing a
highly successful debut season in P1. The runners-up spot and
victory in the Portuguese Grand Prix went to Jolly Special, piloted
by Simone Cesati, Eduardo Platero and Gianbattista Gabriele, with
Ocean Dragon third. The Anglo-Chinese team of Martin Lai, Paul
Williams and Mark Sansom – front-runners all season – suffered drive
problems that deprived them of the glory that had been within their
grasp for most of the year. (full
